Reader, that was 49 years ago. I’ve been married to H for 41 years now; it was his 70th birthday yesterday.
Not at home today, but he gave me a Valentine’s card yesterday, and I left one for him.

So…my Valentine’s story is from a long time ago. Some teenage lads thought it would be a good prank to send me a card, ostensibly from H.
I liked H but wasn’t sure he liked me, so hoped the card was genuine.

After a few days, I plucked up courage to ask H whether the card was from him. Of course, it wasn’t.
But he asked whether I had hoped it was. And when I gave an encouraging response, he plucked up courage to ask me out a few weeks later.

Reminds me of the time I introduced my 5yo to the music of The Beatles on a (very) long car journey.

A surge in donations would be a good way to show appreciation, I think.
Sounds as if they had to swap a Pendolino set (9 or 11 coaches) for a Voyager (5; sometimes doubled up)? All rolling stock now comes in “sets” so they can’t just add/remove coaches as needed - unlike in my Grandad’s day (he was an LNER driver).
On Tuesday I helped my elderly cousin close one bank account, move some savings to get a better rate, and apply for another account.
She can’t do it online: she can’t get to the bank unless I take her; she can’t cope with the phone systems.
Banks should give more help IMO.
