idk about you but i think the hsr CGs are cool as hell (and common in visual novels). they're not lazy, they're literally giving you a full art piece to visualize a part of the story for you, so your "lack of visual storytelling" argument is ridiculous.
you're talking to an animator right now and lemme tell you that this is even worse. it's flat, there's a white light for some reason despite not even having a white light source, and no shadows anywhere. At least HSR understands proper coloring and shading despite the limitations
