    55 years ago this month, the US House voted 338-70 for a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College and switch to direct popular vote election (w/ 40% needed to win and avoid top 2 runoff) govtrack.us/congress/votes… (D 184-44, R 154-26). Died in Senate.
