Stateless MCP doesn’t remove continuity; it relocates it. If any server can answer, durable state still has to say what the agent was doing and what should resume. Scaling the tool layer makes the identity layer more important.

MCP going stateless is the architectural decision that unlocks horizontal scaling but kills session continuity in the same move. The spec now scales to enterprise. The developers now own the state management problem the spec used to solve for them.
