Editing a proof this morning and the copy editor wants me to call it ‘kidney tubular acidosis’ rather than ‘renal’. Am I right to push back?

Even at my age, getting an NIH ‘not discussed’ on a grant you thought was great is a punch in the gut- for younger folks, remember to take as a challenge, not a defeat!!

In view of the recent new information on salt, potassium, blood pressure, and mortality, @PAWellingMD and I today published our insights into salt and blood pressure. We show how new findings complement, but don't disrupt, more traditional underpinnings.

Some of the lectures I attended are ones I remember 30 years later. Being in the presence of brilliant scientists who were great communicators was always inspiring. You can’t replace this!

Outstanding Post-Doc opportunity now @OHSUNephrology to study cardiorenal medicine, with a focus on aldosterone, WNK kinases, edema, and HTN. Bench focus but strong translational opportunities. Excellent success of prior trainees! DM or email. Please RT.

This is vitally important and should not be seen as antagonistic to the parallel need to teach students about social determinants of health. We need to produce all kinds of physicians!
Physician-scientists have often changed the history of medicine by identifying a problem in the clinic and taking to the lab to address it.

Two recent developments confuse me rounding in hospital; every house officer now has their water bottle at all times (see pix) and when did all caregivers start wearing scrubs 24/7?
