Imagine that. Comic books in the same size as manga/kids graphic novels at an affordable price point, displayed in one place with consistent, easy-to-read graphics. Whoodathunk? 🤔

It’s pretty ridiculous that Rumiko Takahashi gets passed over every. damn. year. for the Eisner Hall of Fame, despite the fact that she probably influenced a lot of comics creators today. Don’t know who she is? Start here 👇🏻
And people wonder why N. american anime & manga fans are *obsessed* with print / physical releases compared to their JP & KR counterparts. We simply have no reason to believe in digital releases, even when we pay $$ to “own” or access it.
Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Kindle, Spotify, nearly all digital platforms reserve the right to change or remove content without notice. Note, this can include retroactively revising books and magazine/newspaper articles to "improve" or "update" them.
People in the west wonder why female manga/webtoon creators from Japan and France are camera-shy, dont like to be photographed at fan events — but this is one reason why: awful, senseless online harassment from “fans”

IMHO, In US, the pressure on aspiring comics/manga creators to make prints & merch instead of comics, + few opptys to get real feedback to improve their visual storytelling skills are factors that stunt/hinder their growth towards becoming pro comics creators.

the most memorable thing with gintama the creator was always sooo late on deadlines everyy weeek there’s one time where we literally had to head to the printers with the manuscript and there was one completely blank page.

for starters, shonen manga is primarily made with tween/teen readers in mind. US hero comix today seems to be more like seinen manga, for older readers

“I was protesting the arrest of a BL author in China next to the Taiwan booth. Pride events are a festival to celebrate diversity, but they started as a protest against the Stonewall incident in NY, so I think they should also be a place to support those who speak out in protest”
A common weakness i see in work from aspiring manga/comics artists is that they spend too much time drawing pin-up/cover art illustrations of characters, but not enough time really thinking about their characters’ personalities, backstories, and interactions with others
Haha. I guess this is my way of saying, “it’s not that Japanese publishing is weird/hard to understand, but maybe their take on what readers enjoy reading is more open-minded/progressive/blended than western comics publishing is now, & maybe that’s the bigger issue?” 🙃
