Achievement Unlocked: Two papers posted to the arXiv on the same day! Let me tell you about them. Stratifying Reinforcement Learning with Signal Temporal Logic illustrates how stratified spaces arise in transformer models for RL games. See this beautiful combo of software by

Around ten years ago, I started studying inverse problems in Topological Data Analysis (TDA). For decades people in computational geometry have used tools like Reeb graphs and persistent homology to summarize shape in data, but how lossy is this process? A thread... 1/n

In collaboration with Ryan Gelnett and Matt Zaremsky, and with help from many others, we have computed pi_1 of (each connected component of) the configuration space of circles, outlining future directions for both pure and applied research. Enjoy! 10/n=10 arxiv.org/abs/2411.04800

New category theory/ML startup Symbolica is hiring 6 positions in the UK and Australia. See linked John Baez post. I like that Baez’s main concern is about what happens if ACT-based technology actually works. Attn: @_julesh_ et al golem.ph.utexas.edu/category/2024/…

Two papers that came out this week, which I’m excited to read in more detail: “Random Surfaces and Higher Algebra” by Darrick Lee, Harald Oberhauser. arxiv.org/abs/2311.08366

Surprisingly, there was not much work in this direction. In 2015 a group based out of Japan did some awesome theoretical and computational work showing how to use persistence diagrams to "steer" configurations of point clouds using persistence diagrams. 2/n

I meant to tweet this a few weeks back, but life is busy and I wanted to make a little thread out of this. One morning, I woke up and found this in my daily arXiv digest, a wonderful new paper by the eminent @mmbronstein and coauthors: arxiv.org/abs/2202.04579 1/13

I was interested in something more basic because TDA produces invariants of basic objects, like functions and time series. How much can you tell about a function just by using the barcode? The problem seemed intractable because topology is invariant under a lot of operations. 3/n

First day of (sabbatical) school off to a strong start as @mmbronstein gave a very compelling vision of symmetry as an organizing principle for ML. Luckily two (of the five) books I brought with me overseas are highly relevant!
