- unironically this is why everyone's single "oh, there's a small thing you don't like about a promising match? definitely break up with him instead of mentioning it" no, you don't have "the right" to force him to change it. but maybe just give him the info & let him decide?
- Besides the 4 minute mile, what's a good example of people thinking something was nearly impossible until it was done, where it was then followed by many people matching the achievement it in relatively short order?
- I wonder if “gifted kid burnout” is just: You learn to navigate by the reward signal of achievement (easy, ppl tell you how to get it) so you never develop the more subtle ability to navigate by what interests you. Then when achievement gets sparse, you feel aimless & unmotivated
- This image is so load-bearing for me psychologically -- I think about it all the time
- This story is wild: a teenager joked in a private group chat “On my way to blow up the plane (I'm a member of the Taliban).” Message was intercepted over airport WiFi, reported to Spanish intel which scrambled jets, he’s now on the hook for $120k

- I found a lot of human behavior incomprehensible until I thoroughly internalized one principle: People will believe whatever allows them to be the hero of their own story. (more below)
- I find it kind of creepy how often the obsession with declining fertility coexists with a total lack of curiosity about the reasons people are choosing to have fewer kids
- Open AI -summarily fired a transformational leader -the heart of the company & its very public face -in the middle of the year to end all years -without giving Microsoft any notice -before the close of markets -while saying he lied to the board Whatever it is, it's catastrophic.
- Taking testosterone as a performance-enhancing drug has made me sharper than I was a decade ago, and along the way improved basically every aspect of my life. More below.
