The Gr00t Article Series Part 2: Labels without Labels
In the last article in this series, I talked a lot about “unsupervised training”: training AI models without the use of labels or categories. Unsupervised training is critical for AI at scale because...

this is one of those videos that is really cool on the surface, but if you squint: - you don't need legs - you don't need this many degrees of freedom - you don't need a VLA it's fun because it's biomimetic, but perhaps excessively so

Uncut hour-long footage of Figure 02 autonomously transferring and flattening packages for a scanner down the line. The robot is using Figure’s Helix model, a generalist VLA that now incorporates upgrades in temporal memory and force feedback.

Our platform will allow people to work with AI rather than be replaced by it. As the industry advances, it is important to remember that human capital is required to build the models necessary to continue scaling.

it's a bit trickier than just "oh, the lidar is $250". the really cheap Chinese lidars are either (1) narrow fov (2) low resolution (3) short range, or all of the above for their intended use case of indoor robots that's fine but it becomes messy for self driving plus, roads

would you rather plow a field with 1000 chickens or two oxen? the answer is the chickens, but the winner is the guy who figured out how to make the rope to tie the chickens together

++++++1 for this. the secretive megastartups are really bad for the long-term health of the industry.

In the startup "X for Y" nomenclature - K-Scale's goal is to build the "internet for robotics". In the same way a free and open internet unlocked data collection and value distribution for large AI models, our expectation is that a free and open robonet will unlock the same

Ben is largely right in his analysis here. I'll add that in China, the toy version of the robots have real commercial value - there are entire businesses devoted to renting out Unitrees for promos and advertising, and there the simplified controls make sense. Also, the G1's

About a dozen people sent me the Unitree announcement today. Makes sense, since I guess since K-Scale is the only American humanoid robot company with a product that you can actually buy. If you are American and you care about the future of robotics in this country, you should

heh, this is nothing new. we had a "blind Cheetah" article come out back at MIT that drummed up a bit of controversy ("this blind robot will come hunt down your kids and eat them!")

maybe robotics can help what appears to be a mounting semiconductor fab crisis in the US. I've spent enough time in a cleanroom to never want to spend time in a cleanroom again, but with teleop, we might not have to (and I think cost-and-scarcity-of-labor is a huge part of the

A compact wheeled humanoid robot, it is also very flexible and cute, from the Japanese company Ugo. It is 1.8 meters tall and weighs 54kg. It can autonomously navigate and operate elevators, and has a battery life of 4 hours. It is now in service at Kumamoto International
