It's a dangerously false narrative that he lost due to 'Muslim consolidation'. Check the vote share. Hindus pulled him down in UP, Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bengal. Hindus knocked him out in Ayodhya and Amethi, and brought his margin from 4.8 L to 1.5 L in Varanasi.

Most of Himachal has meat-eater households. A state with 95 percent Hindus. Temples have a long tradition of animal sacrifice. Families in upper Himachal store meat of yaks and other big animals in homes that help them survive winters. But police happily chasing a Muslim.
