Thanks to twitter suppressing the conference hashtag #ASABSpring2024 on this account, we will now be posting from @asab_org indefinitely. Did you know that EVERY post made on X is also on blu3 sky ? Follow us there at "asaborg" if you're as tired of this nonsense as we are

For the end of the AI workshop at #ASABSpring2024, we had everyone write threads about their adventures today.. we've had some very INTERESTING (mostly, horrifying) results. Some of the weirder highlights below 👇

Speaking of AI, do you know the Animal Behaviour journal’s current guidelines? #ASABSpring2024
    Animal Behaviour Guidelines
The guidance only refers to the writing process, and not to the use of Al tools to analyse and draw insights from data as part of the research process.
Only use these technologies to improve readability and language, with human oversight and control.
Al should not be listed as an author or co-author, or be cited as an author.
Authors should disclose in their manuscript the use of Al and Al-assisted technologies in the writing process
Add a statement at the end of their manuscript in the core manuscript file:
Statement: During the preparation of this work the author(s) used
[NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the authors) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.
This declaration does not apply to the use of basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references etc.

Discussion points
CRAB
Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour
What ethical issues arose from today's workshop?
If you use materials produced by a machine rather than another human is it different from stealing?
What are the broader issues for the practice of scientific research?
What would you put in scientist's code of practice around Al use?
