Here’s why I believe YC is the most important company in the startup world: 1. YC creates net new founders: Many founders would not have started companies if not for YC. Most VCs do not fund you if you are pre-revenue (reality is most VCs are growth VCs and want to see some

Y Combinator has helped create more than $800 billion in market value over 20 years. Thank you to Paul, Jessica, Trevor and Robert and Happy Birthday to the fixed point combinator that changed the world.

This is a really sad moment for me. Ratan Tata's scholarship program allowed me to come to the US. He even paid for my flight ticket, laptop, books and rent. Many of us wouldn't be here without him. One of the most important philanthropists of all time. RIP 🙏

Ratan Tata ’59, B.Arch. ’62, the university’s most generous international donor and one of India's most respected business leaders and philanthropists, passed Oct. 9. We will remember his legacy of transformative giving to Cornell. news.cornell.edu/stories/2024/1…

I still cannot believe that Servicenow - with software that looks so old - has close to $10B in revenue and a $130B market cap. I understand - its annoying to move over to new software etc etc - but seriously - how are companies paying millions for this? Its basic UI stuff that

After ~4 years at Y Combinator, I am thrilled to officially announce I’ve joined Peak XV as a Partner in the Bay Area (formerly Sequoia India and Southeast Asia). YC changed my life trajectory. It's been a fun and intense few weeks at Peak XV. We’ve invested in some special YC

At the application layer, I find it strange that investors have already anointed winners in large markets (eg - vibe coding, customer support). We are only 2.5 years into the AI boom. The TAM is all of human labor. At best, the biggest AI application cos are $100M - $400M ARR.

Bay Area is probably the only place where you can meet a stranger and a week later they agree to join your crazy, risky, early-stage startup. The risk threshold levels are at a different level.

Zomato market cap hits ~$30B. (in context: Doordash market cap is $50B). Don't bet against the Indian consumer market.

That's a fair point. It still boggles my mind on how you can be a $100B company with such UIs. Salesforce is another one that boggles my mind.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision to let international students studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to get an automatic 3-year visa. This is a huge win. We need more common-sense immigration policies to retain the best.

We've just closed this financing, although it still feels like Day 1. We have a lot more execution to go before we build a generational company for our customers and shareholders. Back to work :) P.S. - We have built an excellent selection of Gold and Silver coins for customers

Peak XV is excited to lead a big round in Posthog. When I left YC, people asked me what’s the one developer company - I always said Posthog. Posthog has developer ubiquity, ship insanely fast and a hardcore team. They will keep launching new products. Posthog was the first

This is one of the best podcasts on AI metrics and moats. We 100% need a new taxonomy for AI companies and can’t overly anchor on the prior SaaS mental models. A few thoughts based on my pattern match: - Retention: Power-user retention is the leading indicator that matters, not

Its funny: When you ask most successful founders what their startup moat was - they usually simply say - team + speed + shipping velocity + focus. When you ask the same question to most investors, the answer is all sorts of complex market structure reasons
