I try to be mindful of this but at the same time.... is anyone really offended? This seems like much ado about nothing. It's well known that "guys" is a colloquial term to refer to a group of people. Just like "mankind" encompases all of humanity.
I feel this way about carbon nanotube synthesis. Patchwork of effort to make single chirality tubes, but parameter space is huge and complex. Hard to sort thru without real combinatorial experimentation ability.

Fine to say, but working to replicate this will eat up 1000s of hours of grad student time. Don’t the crappy figures raise a red flag to you? Idk. It does not look like a typical top-tier scientific publication.
