Being Black &pursuing medicine has literally been one of the most traumatizing experiences of my life bc why tf yesterday my team went to see a TBI (traumatic brain injury) teen and soon as he opened his eyes and saw me he started shouting out “ni**er” @ me over and over again???
Him: I’m sorry that happened
Me: not ur fault u couldn’t have predicted that
Him: actually I could have… I’ve seen it happen before with other TBIs patients towards Black nurses/ CNAs so I prolly should’ve given u a heads up
Me: ????????? Oh…

I didn’t have the energy to explain that to this 40 y/o yt DOCTOR but man… he basically told me if I was interested in PMNR that that’s something I’d have to prepare to face often… BITCH FUCK THAT WHO WANNA BE CALLED A NI🐒🐒ER EVERYTIME I SEE A YT PATIENT THAT HIT THEIR HEAD??
Obviously I’m not gonna quit medicine bc I’ve come this far and my community CLEARLY needs me but man… this path already comes with so much bs and sacrifice and being Black, I’m reminded how much I’m NOT welcomed or wanted in these spaces @ all times and I’m over this shit!! ✌🏾
Exactly 1 year later and after 10 months, 25+ exams/ quizzes, and countless sleepless nights later… I SURVIVED MY FIRST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL 🥳👨🏾⚕️🍾🍾🍾

We got a (future) doctor in the building!! 🫡🥼 Beyond excited to announce that I’ll be attending @MedicalCollege this fall to begin my studies as a student Physician 👨🏾⚕️🥳 even more excited to make a difference in the lives of Black and brown patients everywhere🤎
