Eight months ago, in my maiden speech to Parliament I said that Fiona Laskaris would succeed in changing the law that prevented her saving her autistic son Christopher from murder. Last night, as reported by ITV News at Ten, I went to Parliament to honour that commitment.

My Catholic Priest publicly announced at every mass he was denying me Holy Communion following the assisted dying vote. Children who are friends of my children were there. This followed a direct threat in writing to do this four days before the vote. 1/3

When @thameswater sent my constituent Steve a cheque for £30 for devaluing his house 30% by dumping sewage in it I asked an ITV film crew to help. When dog owners leave dog mess they get fined- we should treat Thames Water mess the same.

I was shot at for this country. When I married I was a student and wouldn’t have been able to bring my wife to this country under these new rules. Neither would most British soldiers marrying a foreign wife. One more reason why I’m running for parliament to kick them out.

This was utterly disrespectful to my family, my constituents including the congregation, and the democratic process. My private religion will continue to have zero direct relevance to my work as an MP representing all my constituents without fear or favour. 3/3

It is a matter of grave public interest the extent to which religious MPs came under pressure to represent their religion and not necessarily their constituents in the assisted dying vote. 2/3

Sadly I’m on my 2nd @thameswater issue today- now in Forest Green- they’re refusing to fix a mains water pipe, which was stated in resident’s property searches last year as Thames Water’s responsibly. They are risking contaminating the water supply. I’ll be writing to the CEO….

My constituents didn’t know I was Catholic actually @calvinrobinson , as it shouldn’t be relevant. Naively I believed (believe) in keeping religion and politics separate and that we should be a secular country…

No. A Catholic is expected to live (and vote!) based on Catholic morality, not worldly/evil morality. I doubt that his constituents wanted abortion and eugenics, but even if they did, his faith does not permit him to do so. They knew he was Catholic when they elected him.

Just leaving the count- the Liberal Democrat’s have almost wiped out the Conservatives here in Mole Valley. From a Conservative Council in 2018 we now have 30 Councillors and the Conservatives 3. There’s now the real prospect of sweeping the Conservatives nationally from power

I voted for assisted dying for the relief of suffering. Difficult - I considered voting no at least twice. I will work with the government to improve the Mental Capacity Act. I voted in accordance with my conscience, the overwhelming wishes of my constituents and nothing else.
