My jaw is on the floor. This doesn’t feel like a political rally. It reads as something far more sinister when you have thousands of people chanting “SEND THEM BACK” and proudly waving their “MASS DEPORTATION NOW” signs in the air.

My heart is breaking for these workers and their loved ones. Too many of the loudest voices out there demonize immigrants, but it's these newcomers working the most dangerous, thankless jobs. It shouldn't take a catastrophic bridge collapse to recognize their humanity.

Jesus Campos, a construction worker who knows the crew, said the men were from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico. They are in their 30s and 40s and have spouses and children. “They are hard-working, humble men,” he said. More updates to come for @BaltimoreBanner.

NEW GALLUP POLL: the pendulum has swung drastically since last year. 🟢 just 30% want immigration decreased (55% last year) 🟢 79% of Americans think immigration is GOOD for the country (record high) 🟢 Path to citizenship (78%) beats mass deportation (38%)

A quick 🧵on new immigration polling from @Gallup. Let's start with the bad news. More Americans want to see immigration reduced (55% -- highest figure since 2001). And this, despite the US contending with labor shortages & the lowest birthrates on record. 1/

NEW: We’ve already heard it from Border Czar Tom Homan, but now Donald Trump confirms he’s willing to deport US citizen children of undocumented residents. “So the only way you don’t break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back.” Just awful.

It’s been pretty obvious from the campaign trail, Houman’s 60 Minutes interview, and Trump’s first term that immigration enforcement won’t just target violent criminals. This mass deportation operation is likely going to be wielded more as a sledgehammer than a scalpel.

ICE disappeared a 52 year old mother today from Westminster, Maryland whose children said she has no criminal record and is legally allowed to be in the country from El Salvador because she has a pending immigration case.
