I think WeChat is not actually a bridge between China and the world, it is a prison that traps the minds of overseas Chinese people as if they have never left China. It sucks everyone related to China into a black hole of censorship and surveillance.

Ask any Uyghur whether 5 years ago she thought the camps would happen. Things you can't fathom would happen can happen very quickly, as long as the Communist Party has the capacity to do so. That's why it is crucial to defend the freedoms you still have.

Scale of the protest tonight in Shanghai. Notice police didn’t do anything but standing calmly watching ppl protest and shouting. It’s not benevolence. My guess: they need to ask for directives from the top authorities. Police might be stunned as nobody dares doing so for decades

Yes, Elon wants US policy towards China to be Beijing-friendly because he has huge business interests in China, but an equally important factor is that Elon is genuinely fond of China's pro-capital, anti-labor authoritarianism. Elon and CCP are ideologically aligned.
