We are deeply concerned the Depp-Heard decision will set precedent exacerbating barriers victims face in coming forward. The trial and its reception demonstrated a regressive trend of retaliation against those who speak out about violence or abuse perpetrated by those in power.

“I self-generated my work, and I never went around asking permission to make it. The main reason women make inroads in independent film is that no one has to say, ‘I pick you.’ I’m not pounding on anybody’s door. I’m just making my own way." Rest in peace, Lynn Shelton.

We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of cinematographer and WIF member Halyna Hutchins. Safety and wellbeing should be the top priority of any production. We hope all who were impacted by this traumatic incident are provided resources to care for and support their mental health.
