Today marks 35 years since the Trojan Horse Massacre in Athlone. On 15 Oct 1985, apartheid police hidden on a truck, drove down Thornton Road and opened fire at the youth. Jonathan Claasen, 21, Shaun Magmoet, 15 and Michael Miranda, 11, was killed, while others were injured.

Nehemia Claasen (11) has died of a bullet wound to the head following gang crossfire in Parkwood yesterday morning. The Grassy Park CPFs Phillip Bam says following his surgery, the boy's life support was switched off today. He expressed condolences to the bereaved parents.

Today more than a decade of hard work and dedication comes to fruition as the Knysna masjid opens with its first Jumuah. Its the culmination of a journey of 13 years for the local Muslim community who in 2007, set out in search of a property to build the town's first mosque.
