BREAKING: Senior appointments to help lead UNHCR have been announced by SG @antonioguterres. Tressa Rae Finerty will serve as Deputy High Commissioner. @anton_leis as Assistant High Commissioner for Operations. @EdemWosornu as Assistant High Commissioner for Protection.
- Displacement often means leaving everything behind. In Mocímboa da Praia, UNHCR and AVSI are supporting recently displaced families from Nabaje through targeted protection kits for those facing the greatest vulnerabilities, helping restore dignity and meet immediate needs.
- Supporting protection also means strengthening the institutions that deliver it. UNHCR handed over a vehicle to SPAS Nampula to help expand access to services and support for refugees, displaced people and vulnerable communities.

- When displacement becomes prolonged, humanitarian and development actors need to work side by side. Through the 🇩🇪 BMZ-funded Nexus Norte project, UNHCR and GIZ brought together government partners to help shape the next phase of support for displacement-affected communities.
- Protection needs do not pause for the weekend. In Mocímboa da Praia, UNHCR and partners continued distributing protection kits to vulnerable individuals identified through field assessments, with support from the Mozambique Humanitarian Fund (MHF).
- In Cabo Delgado and Nampula, UNHCR and IFPELAC launched a baseline exercise with vocational training beneficiaries. The initiative will help track impact, challenges and opportunities for people affected by displacement.
- In Mualela, protection support also means ensuring assistance reaches persons with disabilities. UNHCR and partners continue supporting vulnerable displaced families through protection kits and targeted assistance.
- In Mueda, Legal Caravan activities have resumed to strengthen access to documentation and legal assistance for displacement-affected communities. Access to documentation remains essential for protection and solutions.
- Protection can also mean immediate access to essential items. With support from the Mozambique Humanitarian Fund (MHF), UNHCR distributed protection kits in Mueda to support vulnerable individuals identified through field assessments.
