What the 'Cheap Houses in Japan!' channels don't list is that most Akiya are flat out liabilities that were fobbed off as inheritance and the owners can't wait to get rid of them. Filled with asbestos, built before uniform earthquake standards and in areas with literally NOTHING

The sensationalist Japan content is getting out of hand. A wall with some graffiti on in Shibuya doesn't mean Japan is at an end😂 There was graffiti in Shibuya ten years ago. There's graffiti in Shibuya today. Look for the bad things and you'll find them. Look for the good

No amount of compartmentalisation of 'But I'll own a house... in Japan!' or 'I'll be fine, I like nature and hiking!' will override being isolated in a town an hour from anywhere with a median age of 75+ where nobody speaks English.

Seeing a lot of these with people thinking they can just "move to Japan" - bruh, a lot of these Akiya are in areas you'll struggle to find work, let alone have the ability to manage the contracts. Even the digital nomad visa is only 6 months and you need to prove sustained income
