The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) is currently conducting a homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Larette Drive. At approximately 12:03 a.m., TPD responded to the area after it was reported an individual had been robbed.

When officers arrived, an adult male was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were immediately attempted, but sadly the victim succumbed to his injuries. This remains an open and active investigation.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Currently, there is no known ongoing threat to the public. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with officers on scene to contact TPD at 850-891-4200.

In October 1964, after a 12-week training course held five evenings a week at James Messer Ball Park, TPD launched its first canine corps with a dozen German Shepherds. The modern K-9 unit was reestablished in 1982, modeled after Baltimore's.
