I have indicated my intent to end my 40 year THP career and retire on May 31, 2018. This is a difficult decision for me leaving a department that I have dedicated my whole adult life to since 1978. I want to thank my wife and family for their support during this time in my life

Today after 33 years, Colonel Dereck R. Stewart, has retired. On his last day in the office he met with his team. In his final official statement he said, “always take care of one another, believe in yourselves but most of all take care of our troopers.” We thank you sir.

As I addressed our supervisors I informed them that our troopers will protect the rights of all people who are exercising their legal rights, and we will appropriately address those who commit illegal actions.

Great job performed by the men and women of local, state & federal law enforcement, National Guard Reserve, media and our citizens. Due to the professional, never quit approach to how you conducted yourselves Steven Wiggins was located and arrested. I am very proud of everyone.

WE HAVE STEVEN WIGGINS IN CUSTODY! Wiggins was wanted for the murder of Dickson County Sheriff’s Ofc. Sgt. Daniel Baker. Trooper Kevin Burch of the THP Lawranceburg District was the arresting officer. Trooper Burch joined THP in 2017. Wiggins was taken into custody in Hickman CO.

Today we witnessed the wrath of Mother Nature, and the Resilency of Tennessee. The destruction and devastation humbled us all. Observing our First Responders, friends, family and even strangers join together in support of one another, made me Proud to be from Tennessee!

Tonight in Nashville, over 50 individuals hijacked a peaceful, well organized expression of our constitional rights. It was a public demonstration of what’s right in our society, but unfortunately due to the actions of a few, our Troopers were forced to do their jobs.

Today at the Tennessee Capital, I was recognized on the floor of the State Senate for my 40 years of service with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. This was a tremendous honor and one that I will always remember. Thank you, TT.

Tonight we are honored to conduct Honor Guard services for Fallen Hero Officer Spencer Bristol. We will continue to pray for his family and that of the Hendersonville Police Department. RIP my brother!
