It’s 9:00 pm & I finally have time to send this message: to every vendor, solution partner, researcher, education advocate, etc. please stop. Just stop. My WA superintendent colleagues & I confronting school closure need to focus on our communities. Let us do our jobs.

How many of my fellow superintendents have someone say to them, almost daily, “I’m sure glad I’m not you!”? And after briefly thinking it’s a valid question and feeling daunted about the work ahead, how many feel grateful to be a superintendent putting children ahead of politics?

I would love for all of us in public education to come together in this moment, and beyond, as one team. Regardless of our role—-paraeducator, administrator, bus driver, custodian, teacher—we are all on the same team: Team Kid. We are all doing our best. Let’s acknowledge that.

The job of being a superintendent can be tough—the politics & criticism can wear you down. But the work of serving children is a gift, even on the difficult days. We endure the job for the sake of the work. Grateful to my colleagues who remain in this work for our kids. @AASAHQ
