Buddy just paid off his 2.5% interest 30-year mortgage. He worked 43 overtime shifts last year at the fire station. Where I work, that’s about 95k in addition to his salary. He had 150k in savings. Dropped it all to pay off his mortgage. Schools should teach life finance.

worked hard - yes saved aggressively - yes owns home outright - yes (minus prop tax, maintenance, insurance) Right move? - up for debate when you can exceed your mortgage interest in a savings account.
