I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s over these stories. I’m all for resilience, but most people aren’t built for it. The “If I can do it why can’t you” phrase is a myth.

If you can’t teach your kids to not kill, steal, etc, without using religion, or before they’re even old enough for school, that’s your failure as a parent.
People who usually do this are white middle/upper middle class or higher. They spin this “Worked so hard/came from nothing” narrative about themselves only to find out they had at least a couple of connections or hookups along the way.
