Galileo's similarity theory powered centuries of industrialization, but living cells broke it. In my newest essay, I argue that encoding this theory as an inductive bias is the only way to transform #bioprocess scaling from alchemy back into engineering.

Last year, ~7% of the Protein Data Bank (PDB) structures came from this facility in England. Their X-ray crystallography throughput is near the top of the global leaderboard, and it's only accelerating. I was fortunate to take a tour of Diamond and now you can too.

Not an ML expert, but want to understand AlphaFold3 (AF3)? I wrote a simple-to-understand AF3 field guide and sprinkled my opinions in along the way. The full essay is linked at the END of the thread. Here's a TL;DR 🧵

Last week, @Novartis scientists published a beautiful paper on a potentially game-changing treatment for sickle cell disease (SCD). The article is paywalled, so I thought I'd summarize it in a brief thread! Check it out. 🧵⤵️

A molecular glue degrader of the WIZ transcription factor for fetal hemoglobin induction
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a prevalent, life-threatening condition attributable to a heritable mutation in β-hemoglobin. Therapeutic induction of fetal hemoglobin (HbF) can ameliorate disease...

It’s likely not the largest, but it is interesting. A mixup between metric and imperial units on shared planning docs infamously led to the scrubbing of a $234M (2024 dollars) NASA orbiter. simscale.com/blog/nasa-mars…

I've stepped into a new role as a Partner and the Head of Research at @_DimensionCap. The past 18 months have been the most intense and fulfilling of my career. I'm incredibly proud of what this team has achieved in such a short period. Our best work is still ahead of us.

There are over 500 amino acids. Also known as non-standard, non-canonical, or even unnatural, these amino acids have diverse functions in Nature and appear to be imbuing therapies with superior physiochemical properties. Read more in my newest essay. tinyurl.com/3apurs2r

I thought this was one of the most provocative images from the EVOLVEpro paper by @omarabudayyeh and @jgooten. Supported by experimental data, they assert that a protein's fitness and its activity are lowly, or even negatively, correlated. How could this be? Shouldn't nature
