History teaches that you can legislate religious protections, but you cannot legislate respect or compassion or bonds of charity. Yet religious freedom hinges on these virtues. We will never achieve consensus on the particulars of our religious commitments. Nor should we.

Day 9 and... done! Happy 250th birthday, America. I'm so grateful to have had this unique opportunity to connect with Utahns and celebrate our remarkable country at 3 miles per hour.

250 miles for 250 years of American independence: complete 🇺🇸 America is great, but even more importantly, it is good. It was a special honor to see that goodness up close, in the most real, offline, and unfiltered ways possible, while walking through Utah. Our goodness is core

Day 8 is complete, and we’re one final push from finishing this journey tomorrow! 250 miles pales in comparison to what Utah’s pioneer settlers endured, but it has given me renewed respect for their fortitude.

    250-Mile Walk Day 8: Fortitude
Mormon pioneers walked 1,300 miles to get to this valley. From 1847 to 1868, some 70,000 of them traveled by wagon, by horseback, and on foot, carrying loads and pushing handcarts. Thirteen hundred...

You see America a bit differently at 3 miles an hour. This walk has reminded me that amid our contentious political climate in Washington, Utah is a special place filled with good people who still believe in family, faith, hard work, and love of country.
Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, walks a 4-mile stretch from above Jeremy Ranch to Kimball Junction in Park City on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, as a part of his America 250 walk from Bear Lake to the Stadium of Fire. The walk follows a 250-mile continuous route over the course of nine days, beginning Friday, June 26 near Bear Lake and ending on Saturday, July 4, at the Stadium of Fire event at BYU’s LaVell Edwards Stadium in...

Day 7: Clocked in about 34 miles and crossed the 200-mile mark! Today I’ve been thinking about the responsibility we have to appreciate the sacrifices made for the liberties we enjoy today, and to pay it forward for future generations.

    250-Mile Walk Day 7: Sacrifice
Sacrifice is a word with many counterfeits. We may think of it as giving up something present for something better down the line, like “sacrificing” a spending spree today for a better retirement. We...

We’re seeing in Utah just how important it is to manage our forests before fire disasters strike, not after. That’s exactly why I introduced the Fix Our Forests Act, which would reduce wildfire risk through healthier forests, better stewardship, and faster, commonsense
Charred remains of houses and vehicles are all that is left in Eagle Point Resort’s West Village outside of Beaver Tuesday, June 30, 2026, after the Cottonwood Fire torched much of the area.

Day 6 brought me to 170 miles and into beautiful Park City. Today I’ve been thinking about family, and the special attention the founders paid to securing liberty for our posterity.
