The Fourth of July is a celebration of the revolutionary ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence—liberty, equality, and self-government. As America marks its 250th birthday, may we continue striving to build a more perfect union.🇺🇸

Clean energy is becoming more and more affordable—and smart energy policy can help lower costs, strengthen American competitiveness, and create jobs.   It was great to join SEEC Institute’s Solutions Summit to talk about how we turn those goals into lasting results.

As we approach America’s 250th birthday, it’s worth revisiting the ideas that built our country.
In this episode of Civics in 60, I’m breaking down the Federalist Papers—the essays that helped explain & defend the Constitution at a pivotal moment in our history.

As we approach #America250, we must ensure the next generation understands the Constitution and how our government works. Thanks to @BrookingsInst for hosting this important bipartisan discussion on civic education.

Joshua Chamberlain was a college professor who answered his country's call—and changed the course of history.   His story reminds us that America has always been shaped by ordinary citizens willing to step forward when it matters most. #WeAreAmerica250

The issue here isn't architecture. Or patriotism. It's the Constitution.
Congress passes our nation’s laws. And no president—regardless of party—has the authority to violate three separate laws on a project that Congress hasn't authorized.
An Interior Department spokeswoman called President Trump’s triumphal arch “a project that all Americans can be proud of.”

Veterans deserve a responsible VA—and that starts with accountability within the organization.   That's why I secured confirmation that VA staff who report misconduct remain protected from retaliation—despite rumors of restrictive NDAs being considered.

Intelligence only works when analysts evaluate the facts and tell the truth.   After a nominee spoke about the importance of independent analysis and the willingness to tell policymakers what they don't want to hear, his response to my follow-up question was disappointing.

Investing in first responders boosts our workforce and makes communities safer.   At the York County Regional Training Center, I saw how federal dollars are helping train the next generation of firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, & law enforcement officers.

This #MemorialDay, I hope you’ll pause for a moment and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.   Celebrate with friends and family, but be mindful of the men and women who made it all possible.

I didn’t realize so many young people on the Internet knew Johnny Appleseed 🍎… But the idea holds up: plant now, benefit later. Better health for your family and far less cost to you (and taxpayers) in the years to come.

Prevention measures like an $11 bath mat could save Americans tens of thousands of dollars.   If Medicare would send these out to every recipient in America, I’ll bet the investment would pay for itself in under a year.
