131 years ago today, more than 250 Lakota people were slaughtered at Wounded Knee. My heart aches for those who were taken from us. This is part of the generational trauma we carry as Indigenous peoples and why I am so committed to the work ahead for healing and justice.

- Today I couldn’t help but be emotional as I visited the homes of my ancestors at Mesa Verde National Park. I’m grateful to those who work to ensure that these sacred spaces are cared for and respected for future generations to experience.
00:00 - As I traveled through @YellowstoneNPS last week, I was escorted by a group of bison, welcoming me to the park. I am grateful to the staff and park rangers who made my first trip back to Yellowstone as Secretary of the Interior informative, engaging, and wonderful.
00:00 - Today we celebrate the strength of Indigenous communities, the traditions and cultures that have survived millennia, and our fervent hope for the future. Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day, everyone!
00:00 - On this day in 1890, nearly 300 Lakota people were slaughtered at Wounded Knee, S.D. by U.S. Army soldiers. I wept with descendants of that massacre at the Wounded Knee Memorial this past year. Our work to build a better future starts with acknowledging our tragic history.
