In case anyone needs to hear it- the COVID numbers you’re seeing are likely massively undercounted. Consider all the rapid tests being done at home (meaning, not reported) and hurdles getting confirmatory PCRs tests. Please stay safe folks 😷

You’re likely seeing a lot of “ffs” from public health folks at the news that TSA is dropping mask mandates on airplanes, trains, and public transportation. Here are some thoughts (while screaming into the void): (1/n)

We may want to be done with COVID, but forcing our way through it is myopic & frankly ridiculous. People are still getting sick, going to hospitals, & dying. We need primary prevention, like masks +vaccines. Personally, I’ll continue to wear a mask on airplanes & pubtranspo (6/6)

Increasingly seeing folks symptomatic (many w/high-risk exposures) but testing negative for 2-3 days on at-home antigen tests. This is a trend with omicron, so if you’re not feeling well and testing negative, please stay home if possible &/or wear a mask when around others (1/2)

COVID cases are up 4% in the US the past two weeks, which may not sound like a lot, but some states are getting hit hard. AZ is up 110%, Nebraska 153%, California has a 62% increase in cases, Texas 57%, and Washington is seeing a 41% spike. A winter surge is approaching (1/2)

For air travel - removing masking requirements is a great way to ensure you’re spreading COVID (and any other respiratory infection in circulation) among a lot of people going to a lot of different regions. (5/n)

Protecting the safety of those who use public transportation is critical and frankly, deciding it’s not worth it is a really privileged stance to take. (4/n)

Honestly, I think it’s irresponsible for us to give safety guidance for the VP debate. VP Pence was clearly exposed and needs to be in quarantine. This should be done remotely and in the safety of their homes.

Cases are rising in the U.S. and with so many public health measures relaxing, we’ll likely see increasing case counts. This data also reflects an underreported # bc home antigen tests aren’t report. (2/n)

Noro is crazy contagious, so folks, if you do have it in your household…please: ramp up your hand hygiene (soap & water, as hand sanitizer is limited in efficacy for it), clean/disinfect like no one’s business (w/effective products! When in doubt, bleach it out), (1/2)

Public transportation is hard to enforce infection prevention measures in - from masking to ensuring adequate ventilation. Even on airplanes (great ventilation/filtration), masks are critical - lots of ppl + enclosed space + prolonged period of time. (3/n)

Jokingly told my stepdad (former dairy farmer, now engineer) about the virtual pushback on my post regarding drinking raw milk, and his response: “once you grow up and work on a dairy farm, there’s no f-cking way you drink raw milk.” 😂 Happy Monday, all
