“Tolerance…I think about what that word implies. It’s the belief that we have a greater claim over this space than you do. That our kindly willingness to tolerate your presence in this space is conditional upon you behaving exactly the way we want.” - K. Sedgman

Seeing people who look like you doing what you aspire to do is invaluable. @firing_control was the only black female professor I’ve had in all my years of schooling. @AllardLaw has given me a platform to inspire other black women in the way she inspired me. #representationmatters

Thank you all for wishing me congratulations. I wasn’t planning to announce the news publicly because it’s been a tough week for Black folks. Celebrating anything on here feels wrong right now. When the time comes, I’ll eventually bask in the joy of becoming Dr. Ghebremusse.

Thanks to the hard work of the UBC chapter of @blsacanada over the past six weeks, and the support of departing Dean Catherine Dauvergne, @AllardLaw has made concrete commitments to combat anti-Black racism in our faculty. This a great first step.

Tell 'em, @JoshuaSealy! The debate was both tragic and hilarious to watch. It was a reminder of how insidious white supremacy is. If ever a bigger case needs to be made about diversifying our law schools and our profession, this is it.

To anyone doubting the need for more Critical Race Theory in Canada, the anti-SOP submissions are a clinic of uncritical and conservative race rhetoric: -Acknowledging racism exists means everyone white is racist -Acknowledging racism exists is overly political
