This is Navid. He came to the UK as a refugee, qualified in medicine, and is now a research fellow at Royal Papworth. He is on a top programme in London and still came up on both Saturday and Sunday to help run our vaccination centre this weekend. Thank you Navid πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Nicoleta has been in hospital for 13 months, with 11 months in critical care and 10 months (299 days) on ECMO. Husband Mike has driven the three-hour round trip to visit his wife in our hospital almost every day for a year. Yesterday he came to take her home πŸ₯°

This is more than just a bacon rollπŸ₯“πŸž Steve has motor neurone disease. He’s been in our hospital since August. Having MND & a tracheostomy affects the muscles in his throat & mouth, meaning he has a poor swallow. His goal since October - eat a bacon roll (with ketchup)...

Here's something quite incredible... This month marks 38 years since Richard's heart transplant at Royal Papworth Hospital πŸ«€. He is our longest-surviving heart transplant patient ever, having had his operation in 1984 at the age of 20. @NHSOrganDonor

The story of a world first in child heart transplantation, delivered by the NHS during a global pandemic, which has saved the lives of six children since Feb 2020, including Anna, 16, and Freya, 14. A collaboration between ourselves, @GreatOrmondSt and @NHSBT. Thread 1/10

This is an incredibly powerful moment πŸ’™ Phil is waiting for a heart transplant. He used to serve with 29 Commando Regiment, Royal Artillery. Today, the regiment drove all the way from Plymouth to come and see him and bring video messages from those who couldn’t join.

Will Matthews has been an inpatient with us for 162 days (July). A bass guitar player, he was concerned the connection between his brain and fingers might be affected by a stroke. So our occupational therapist Amil lent him his bass to practice - today they played together 🎸πŸ₯

🎹🎢 Occupational therapist Ruth noticed that Mark, who recently had a lifesaving lung transplant, was feeling a bit flat. Mark loves to sing. Ruth loves the piano. And so this duet was formed earlier today. A supportive intervention, getting Mark back doing what he loves mostπŸ’™

One of our patients, Gary from Peterborough, has motor neurone disease and is being cared for by our Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) team. He asked if we could arrange for his sons (who make up a band called Endeavour) to come and play a few songs for him (1/3).
