I just realized the Ahsoka show formally recontextualizing the Force as something anyone, with enough patience and effort, can unlock goes a long way in making General Grievous an even more pathetic character, which I love

I love Grievous. But a big reason I love him so such is because he’s just a fucking jackass and a loser. Yeah, I love the uber powerful tactical Grievous as much as the next guy, but you can have both. Part of the reason Grievous Intrigue and the Deserter are so great
Grievous in “Grievous Intrigue,” an episode that perfectly balanced Grievous as a tactical, ruthless monster…. And also a fucking loser

Grievous could have unlocked the Force. But he didn’t want to put the effort in. He took the, to quote Yoda on the dark side, quick and easy route He wanted the power of the Force without wanting to understand it
In age of republic, grievous is given a force vision, where the force itself seems to mock him as having only succeeded in destroying himself
The vision, perhaps the force itself, mocks Grievous, “you have carved away your own connection to (the Force), replaced it with parts you believe you understand. But your understanding is not strength. It is small. You are small”

This really demonstrates George Lucas’s ideals when it comes to “lore.” He was open to returning a character from death he previously had given permission to kill

You'd think with a head that big he'd enough cells to realize that George was god's strongest retconner and constantly changed his own lore

I like how Hondo is the one cameo no one ever rejects. The “it makes the universe smaller” argument doesn’t apply. It’s Hondo. If any character would know everyone, it would be him

Everyone saying “through Morgan” or “contacted by Morgan” is missing the very funny possibility that he has no idea that Thrawn is actually coming back and just keeps saying it to get resources and to stall

There can be an element of tragedy in his backstory, but I think the idea that Grievous chose to become this monster puts so much more allegory and character into his story. Grievous is a Star Wars character who fundamentally does not understand the story he is in.

Grievous thinks he can take the quick and easy path instead of working hard. And yeah, I’m not denying his accomplishments. But in the end, you can only get so far

someone once said Baylan is a character who desperately wants to explain his motivations but no one ever asks so he just wanders around saying vaguely dramatic stuff hoping someone takes the bait, feeling that right now
