    This was NOT my experience on @WHO mission. As lead of animal/environment working group I found trust & openness w/ my China counterparts. We DID get access to critical new data throughout. We DID increase our understanding of likely spillover pathways.

    People keep saying COVID-19 is a 'black swan' event - completely unexpected. Then there's this, from 2013 by @kakape: "This shows, that right now in China, there are bats carrying a virus that can directly infect people & cause another SARS pandemic"

    New data included env. & animal carcass testing, names of suppliers to Huanan Market, analyses of excess mortality in Hubei, range of covid-like symptoms for months prior, sequence data linked to early cases & site visits w/ unvetted live Q&A etc. All in report coming soon!

    Day 14 of our quarantine in Wuhan!! Slightly sad to say goodbye to my “gym” & my “office” where I’ve been holed up for last 2 wks!! (Clue - It’s all in the same room...). Moving into next phase of work now w/ @WHO mission team & China counterparts.

    It’s official: “substantial probability that normal speaking causes airborne virus transmission in confined environments.” 1 minute of talking loudly can produce more than 1,000 virus-containing droplets that could linger in the air for over 8 minutes.

    Well now this👇. @JoeBiden has to look tough on China. Please don’t rely too much on US intel: increasingly disengaged under Trump & frankly wrong on many aspects. Happy to help WH w/ their quest to verify, but don’t forget it’s “TRUST” then “VERIFY”!
