Viet Thanh Nguyen traces American empire from the Vietnam War to the genocide in Gaza and beyond: “You cannot separate the domestic politics of the United States – its inequities, its contradictions, its oppressions – from what the United States does outside of this country.”

Poppy Liu (@poppyrepublic) criticizes the cowardice of artists who refuse to speak out about the genocidal war on Gaza: "The whole point of being an artist is to digest the world that we see, to use the mechanism of empathy, to reflect the world back from a space of bravery.”

Israeli forces just raided two of the three locations of the iconic Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem, confiscating books and arresting Mahmoud and Ahmed Muna — part of the second and third generation of a legendary bookselling family. Literary workers around the world, amplify.

Since launching 24 hours ago this has risen to a total of 4,500 writers and publishing professionals pledging to boycott all complicit Israeli institutions. Names are coming in faster than we can process them.

Walid Daqqa, Palestinian poet and political prisoner, died yesterday in an Israeli prison. Last year at one of our events in Ramallah the director of the Sakakini Center, Hossam Ghosheh, read one of Daqqa's poems. Mohammed El-Kurd then read Dalia Taha’s English translation.

We want to introduce you to some young poets in Gaza. Through the genocide, they have not stopped writing. Most have been made homeless. All want to escape. They need all of our help, so we want to tell you about them. 🧵
