- Being called anti-Semitic for opposing political Zionism is like being called anti-White for opposing the KKK. The charge means less and less every day.
- Just finished #DaveEggers' latest book, #Contrapposto, about the art world and the ambivalent relationship between art for art's sake and art as a commodity, due out from @AAKnopf in June. An excellent novel that I would definitely recommend.
- Not going to dig into this too much, but it does seem more like writers are being paid for their publicity value in this case, rather than "awarded" a prize. Now that the Windham-Campbell Prizes have been announced I can talk about my failure to make the grade back in February, when I was told I had won a prize for fiction. Initially thrilled, then learned the prize was contingent on forms of promotion I was simply unable to provide.
- Rewatching Pulp Fiction as a postmodernist text and come across the line, "Coke is f*cking dead as... dead. Heroin is coming back in a big f*cking way." With the opiate epidemic, it feels like Tarantino didn't know how right he was.
