Sutton is correct here of course. Yes, you can initially learn a little bit by being taught. That's what it appears car driving schools do. But really you are teaching yourself to learn how to drive with a safety monitor beside you. What about in-class learning? Turns out you

Lots of people think it's obvious that humans learn by imitation, starting with babies imitating their parents. Richard Sutton thinks this is completely wrong. Sutton basically thinks direct imitation plays almost no role in animal learning, and at most a small role in human

A PR disaster unfolding in real time here on X. Luminar, a LiDAR manufacturer needs more sales, so it decided to hook up with YouTuber Mark Rober (of glitter bomb fame) to make a video showcasing how LiDAR works better than Tesla's vision only system for self driving. Mark put

My Tesla has been driving me everywhere for the last couple of months. Yesterday I took my wife’s Rivian in for 12V battery replacement, meaning I had to actually drive it. OMG. It hit me when I got into the freeway. I started getting annoyed I had to actually drive the car!

You've seen Elon carrying a sink into Twitter to make a visual pun "Let that sink in", now we have a 20' high fork in the road right in front on the newly added section to Gigatexas (credit @JoeTegtmeyer for the drone shot). Why? The newly added section contains Tesla's new

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but this came up AGAIN in today's Rogan podcast. Whether Elon was technically a Tesla founder, it's completely irrelevant. I pulled these tables from the 2010 Tesla IPO filing. It shows Elon was by far the biggest investor in the giant money

What is it with parents these days thinking they can do everything with toddlers? When we had toddlers, we stayed away from nice restaurants. If we wanted to eat out we’d go at off hours and find an empty patio so we couldn’t disturb anyone. We rarely travelled on airplanes,

How long have you been following the UFC? Dana does this type of thing all the time. It’s awesome. Takes credentialed media out of the picture and makes fans feel like they have a front row seat to what’s going on behind the scenes.

Delaware Judge strikes down Elon Musk's Tesla 2018 compensation plan, resulting him working for free for the last six years and overruling Tesla's shareholders who had voted for the plan. In her ruling, she opined that shareholders hadn't been fully informed that the Board

I don’t think people understand how much he risked in the early Tesla and SpaceX days. He took his entire $170m proceeds from his PayPal stake and plowed it into these ridiculously risky startups during the worse financial crisis in 50 years. All while working like a dog and

I suspect kids like robots better than humans as teachers because there’s no judgment coming from a robot. There’s no emotional reproof when you get something wrong or struggle with something.

MSNBC directly compared it to a Hitler rally and they weren’t subtle about it. Broadcast media like that can’t die soon enough. I kinda think we’re pretty much there already though. Long form podcasts (like Rogan/Trump) have 100x more views than legacy media, and real news like

As a Tesla shareholder, this is the last thing I want in a CEO. Someone who proclaims that jumping deep into political campaigns is his #1 priority. I don’t begrudge Elon from getting involved in politics, knock yourself out man. But you can’t do it and also be an effective CEO

Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.

I keep running into people who think wireless technologies are going to replace fiber optics for communications. Either Wifi, Cellular or Satellite (Starlink). It's never going to happen. This picture of the electromagnetic spectrum shows one reason why. All wireless
