- The attack on trade unions from this Tory Government is identical to the past that we defeated and and we must defeat this and restore the basic fundamental human right of the right to strike. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
- We have just responded to a query from ITV news about membership since the @RMTunion dispute and the POA membership has increased by 128 since Monday. Well done those joiners and welcome. Steve Gillan Gen Sec.
- I would like to thank @RichardBurgon for the fantastic support since 2016 speaking up for POA members at every opportunity. It isn’t the most popular of positions being Shadow Justice Secretary but many thanks for the support. Steve Gillan Gen Sec.
- It is with deep regret that today I had to announce that POA Deputy General Secretary Joe Simpson had passed away on 27th September after a brave fight against cancer. Joe was an immense man, trade unionist and a friend. He will be sadly missed. RIP Joe. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
- To all the prison staff working over the Christmas period keeping society safe they deserve a big shout out as they are often forgotten about and under estimated in the role they carry out on behalf of the public. Stay safe and thank you. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
- Male guards for Male prisons @GMB firstly we don’t have guards we have Prison Officers. The majority of female officers and male officers work professionally and hard keeping the public safe. The issue is vetting and training do not undermine female officers. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
- So one member of the public alleges the strikes are political and the media harp on about it and the salaries of @MickWhelanASLEF and @RMTunion Mick Lynch. Pretty predictable from the media. Ask a relevant question for god sake. Steve Gillan Gen SecI sense it could be a hard day for the media if they keep asking the same tired old questions. Mick Lynch on top form today! #SupportRailWorkers
00:00 - It’s a good job trade union officials know their industries inside out as it’s clear politicians don’t have a clue. Transport select committee being educated @RMTunion Steve Gillan Gen SecAnother of the anti-RMT tropes that frequently does the rounds concerns Driverless Trains. This morning, at the Transport Select Committee, @RMTunion Mick Lynch was asked this very question by @karlmccartney MP
00:00 - Our members and indeed all Prison Staff are key workers and Part of the Emergency Services whether some supermarkets recognise it or not. The Employer and Govt need to intervene and educate on this issue. Prison staff risk their lives every day. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
- Well done @GNev2 for using punditry to get a clear message across and upsetting the right wing at the same time. Steve Gillan Gen Sec.Gary Neville is taking the biscuit here. I thought he was paid by ITV to do football punditry?
- I am grateful for @MichaelGove recognising Prison Staff in his update tonight. It is right and fitting that our members are recognised as key public sector workers at this vital time of COVID-19. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
