I pleased to announce the POA have agreed a deal worth in excess of 18% pay rise effective from 1st January 2023 for POA members at HMP Fivewells where we have voluntary recognition with G4S. A joint statement has gone out to all staff. A major success. Steve Gillan Gen Sec.

It is with deep regret that today I had to announce that POA Deputy General Secretary Joe Simpson had passed away on 27th September after a brave fight against cancer. Joe was an immense man, trade unionist and a friend. He will be sadly missed. RIP Joe. Steve Gillan Gen Sec

Male guards for Male prisons @GMB firstly we don’t have guards we have Prison Officers. The majority of female officers and male officers work professionally and hard keeping the public safe. The issue is vetting and training do not undermine female officers. Steve Gillan Gen Sec

Our members and indeed all Prison Staff are key workers and Part of the Emergency Services whether some supermarkets recognise it or not. The Employer and Govt need to intervene and educate on this issue. Prison staff risk their lives every day. Steve Gillan Gen Sec
