The Leadbeater assisted dying PMB failed under scrutiny. But plans are afoot to revive it, and force it into law. Pressure is now being put on Labour MP Lauren Edwards to put her name to the Bill. We turned out with her constituents to ask her to make a different choice.

CEO of @jk_rowling's charity for women warns MSPs considering assisted dying "that "state-sanctioned killing” could open the gates to a “perpetrator’s ultimate act of control."" Increasing pushback from those who work to stop violence against women.

One Dr "told my mother to prepare for the very real chance that I would die. That sounded -to my nutrients-starved, illness-addled brain- great, because it confirmed I was good at anorexia." Brutal realism from @HadleyFreeman on the girls who would be sucked into assisted death

Alicia Duncan had to do just this in Canada: "plead in front of a judge for her mom's life". Her mom was sectioned and reassessed by Drs. Donna Duncan's daughters are articulate, capable, determined. Not everyone is. Even so, it wasn't enough. Donna was euthanised on release.

Incredibly, Kim Leadbeater suggests a family concerned about a decision to allow a loved one's assisted suicide should take out an "injunction". Does she honestly think anxious family members would find the money or know how to go about doing this?

What if death is just a treatment option? A Canadian dr tells us this shocking case study of her patient killed before doctors could help her. "Euthanasia was the only "care" provided" "This is how it replaces usual medical care when it becomes part of healthcare"

An assertion being made by some MPs is that assistance to end your life is just “another treatment option”. BMA consultants disagree. They say it presents ‘serious moral hazards to consultants’ and could have ‘serious potential adverse impacts’ on health services.

If this is for us, we found that violent domestic homicide of women is already commonly mistaken for benign 'assisted' dying here in the UK. This should give MPs pause that we cannot detect these men who respond to disability or infirmity with killing. Report here

"what would you want to happen if this were your daughter" MP @Rebecca_SPaul deeply frustrated at the Assisted Death bill committee's rejection of all additions to safeguards so far. Asks committee to imagine an anorexic girl refusing treatment.

"lots of: 'agree on the principle and then worry about the detail later'. The devil is in the detail. We can't be making legislation based on a principle or a feeling". NEW EPISODE: 16x Paralympic medallist, Baroness @Tanni_GT says "This is a bad bill, at the wrong time"

Assisted Dying promises ease of suffering. But in this staggering clip, Professor of palliative medicine @IloraFinlay tells us some of the drugs used in assisted deaths have been used in executions- but abandoned for executions because they were 'inhumane'.

'what is the point of an investigation, even a prosecution, after someone has been coerced into ending their life" Max Hill, ex DPP, exposes a danger in thinking behind the bill It bins a coroner's duty to investigate, and family won't be told. Total trust in the Drs and panel.

NEW, on the unacceptable risk that a coerced woman is given death by the state. What happens if we leave the clear line that killing women is wrong? Results here & abroad may give MPs pause. We say assisted dying safeguards must never fail, lest the state delivers femicide. 🧵

Good to see this issue getting some heft from @beirasplace. Their CEO says "children as young as 16 had sought help after being choked during one-night stands but she stressed women in long-term relationships had also been affected." thetimes.com/article/13daab…

So far we hear that the lives of the following women are worth losing for the greater win of assisted dying: - 'a few grannies ..bullied into' it - 1 or 2 (or 60+) women with anorexia - 288 mostly female dementia sufferers a year (are we allowed to mention the slippery slope)

Intense distress from MPs on the #NoDebate approach to issues in Assisted Death @Jess4Lowestoft "how can we call that a debate" @TomTugendhat reminds MPs bill "allows the state to kill someone" @NeilDotObrien "there has been no time to have a proper debate" To no avail 👇

MPs have voted to end debate on those issues. 288 v 239. That's as little as bill supporters care to hear about the problems in the Bill on these issues.
