YES. This idea that there has EVER been a time when women primarily just chilled while raising children is preposterous. Women have ALWAYS worked. Every woman in my family going back 4 generations worked. Seamstress; child care provider; hairstylist; old folks home; waitress.

If he is indeed exemplary in his results (as you’ve said), while also being actively engaged in the care of his child, then perhaps he’s actually raising the bar and exemplifying a new, MORE ambitious norm than the one that already exists.

Are you misrepresenting marginal rates on purpose, or do you really not understand how they work?

At some point, she makes the point that ‘traditionally male’ tasks tend to be more sporadic and/or less time intensive than traditionally female ones. Which is pretty accurate. Some things have to be done daily/several times a day while others are done weekly/monthly/quarterly.

Seems like there’s a looooooooot of space between ‘no physician can so much as speak to my child outside of my presence’ and ‘sure, that there doc can go ahead and conduct lengthy treatments, alone with my child over a prolonged period of time.’

This is a tricky one because there are at least 2 different kinds of likeability, and one of them is largely out of a person’s hands. There’s the likeability of being a pleasant, kind person who takes a (non-weird) interest in others. Then there’s likeability born of charisma.

Not just the bullies. I’ve noticed that nearly many kids over the age of 10 are really, *really* good at identifying whether a peer is on the spectrum. They frequently come right out and ask. Not in a menacing way, but matter of fact.

That’s not western culture; that’s distinctly English speaking western culture. All of continental Europe is similar to how you described Pakistan.

This is exactly right. Modern parenting demands intention and a time-intensiveness that would have been unfathomable to every preceding generation. We have fewer kids because we’re expected to do more for and with them than at any point in history.

Sounds divine! You’ll never hear my say ‘I can’t imagine my life without my kids.’ I don’t need to imagine it. I *remember* it. And yeah, it was awesome! Having kids is awesome too. Sometimes. 😂

And then they’re incensed by the fact that she’s “showing her husband such disrespect by telling this story on TikTok’ as if we don’t see what men say about women all over the internet everyday.

Ongoing pettiness: if a creator on any platform asks for engagements or follows, I will actively unfollow them and never ever engage with their content again, even if I do watch or read it.
