the issue with all of these discussions, is that no one can ever decide what counts as "American food". because we have a huge variety of foreign cuisines. which we include in "American food". but when Europeans talk about American food, they mean hotdogs and burgers, maybe BBQ.

Americans *genuinely* believe they have better food than France. They really believe it. It’s truly extraordinary.

and even if you just want to count foods that originate in America, I think soul food, Cajun, texmex, and new England fish places easily clear most European cuisines.
