I think if u earn your degree & play college baseball at a:
Division 1 school: Ur a DUDE
Division 2 school: Ur a DUDE
Division 3 school: Ur a DUDE
NAIA school: Ur a DUDE
Don’t let anyone tell u different.
I think there are two types of players: Guys that Play Baseball and Baseball Players…and there is a huge difference between those two. Be a Baseball Player.
Pitchers: Mechanics are important as it relates to command & repeatability.
But in many cases not as important as U standing on the mound feeling 7 feet tall & truly believing in ur heart/mind that that stuff coming out of ur hand is better then the hitters stuff in the box.
I think one way to become a GREAT baseball player is to become GOOD OFTEN. Avoid being great one day and below average the next. Just be consistently GOOD day in and day out.
Pitchers: I think if U can do these 5 things well you give ur team a chance to win:
1) Fearlessly compete pitch to pitch
2) Have plus fastball command inside & outside the zone
3) Have one plus secondary pitch u can throw in any situation, any count, to any hitter, for a strike
Pitchers: If u work hard in ur throwing program that is great…but it requires so much more. Think about having INTENT & CONVICTION on every throw & the appropriate work ethic will follow.
I don’t believe coaches can get u drafted/recruited
Only person who can do that is YOU
Ur coaches will
Point u in right direction
Show u the path
Warm u about hazards
Kick ur ass back on the trail when u stray
Comes down to u putting 1 foot in front of other day in & day out
Many young players think team defense is catching & throwing the baseball. Other things it includes:
1) Defensive Positioning
2) Pre Pitch Communication
3) Knowing speed of runners
4)Understanding inning, score, outs, situation, hitter
Players: Today is the most important day in ur 2023 season. Requires great intention & conviction to get 1% better.
& when today ends, tomorrow becomes the most important day of the season for u.
& when Tuesday ends, Wednesday becomes the most important day of ur season. Etc…
I think it’s important players get past their performances, good or bad, real quick.
The baseball God’s don’t care what u did yesterday & either should you.
Debrief it & learn from it. Today’s outcome will be based on ur preparation & competitiveness..not yesterday’s results.
Tough loss in 10 innings today. No morale victories in Titan Land…we lost. Old school Titan effort all weekend from players. Debrief, learn, get better, & move on to tomorrow. #TuskUp
