Today marks 29 years since the launch of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) on December 2, 1995 and the journey continues!
The Solar & Heliospheric Observatory, is a project between ESA and NASA to study the Sun from its deep core to the outer corona and the solar wind.
- SOHO Discovers 5,000th Comet! Congratulations to doctoral student Hanjie Tan for this milestone discovery and all the citizen scientists and @DoNASAScience participants for their efforts. Keep comet hunting! soho.nascom.nasa.gov/5000comet.html
- Spectacular coronal activity recorded by SOHO/LASCO over the last two days.
- The massive CME from 12 hours ago that triggered the ongoing solar energetic proton storm (running difference movie).
- SOHO/LASCO observations of a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME), associated with a solar energetic proton (SEP) event . Simulations carried out at NASA's Community Coordinated Modeling Center indicate that the CME may impact Earth at about 2023-07-19T18:28Z (+- 7 hours).
