The Traitors a good example of how despite the many strengths of Netflix and co they can’t come close to creating the national discourse moments, the WhatsApp group chats, next day in the office discussions that live TV, and in particular the BBC, do so well.

Is Sajid Javid the first person to resign on principle twice from the same Prime Minister’s Cabinet?

The entire £1.90 rail ticket mistake story is ridiculous, but this response from Northern is almost as frustrating as the story itself and captures the all too common “computer says no”, zero empathy response that leads to people thinking the system is rigged against them.

I think the trend of clips like this (or the Jenrick video) is where citizens shame public authorities into action could become really powerful. I think what’s powerful is the tone of “look something can actually be done” rather than just railing against decline.

I’m absolutely sick of seeing endless disgusting graffiti on the tube. So this morning I teamed up with @lfg_uk to do something about it🧽🧼✨

We are just in the car back from focus groups this weekend in Beverley, Hull,Scunthorpe & Peterborough and without doubt the disillusionment was the worst I’ve heard, in every group it was anger; despondency or misery about the state of Britain that doesn’t feel sustainable.

Leaving aside the politics. My biggest concern about 'party-gate' is the growing number of institutions at risk of getting burnt up in the storm - the reputation of the civil service, trust in the police, the integrity of the Union. Things which when lost are so hard to win back.

Adolescence a depressing case study for how discourse ruins everything 1. Show raises important societal issues and triggers national conversation on what to do. 2. People get carried away and watching show becomes performative purity test 3. Rejecting the show becomes equally

Today @Moreincommon_ we have published Britons and Gender Identity. Based on polling of over 5,000 people and focus groups across the country. We found the current divisive online debates simply don't reflect the way the public think about trans and gender identity. (1/n)

If you want an idea of why removing the £2 bus fare cap may be so damaging beyond polls, read Greg's quote from our focus group. At a time of deep political distrust it's one of few recent examples of a policy people can point to that tangibly improves their lives for the better

The sneariness of some on here towards Leave voters in last night’s Question Time is as predictable as it is unpleasant. But you’d have at least hoped that after 7 years people might have realised that telling people they’re stupid or implying they’re bigoted doesn’t change minds

Last night, when we asked focus group participants how they thought we should pay for the cost of tackling climate change, the immediate (and sincere) response was to cut MPs pay. It's the second time in recent months I've had that response and it worries me in two ways.

🧵 Held a focus group of women yesterday just over/approaching retirement age and while it wasn’t surprising they were unhappy about the state of Britain, the sense of pessimism was so great that it was almost impossible to get them to talk about anything they felt was going well
