We’re excited to be coming out of stealth mode to announce $8M in new funding to build a giant cannon that can launch raw materials needed for the orbital economy. We just secured a $2M Air Force contract and hit Mach 4.6 with our latest gas gun.
Longshot is a company dedicated to putting gigatons of raw materials into orbit for 100x cheaper than a rocket ever could by launching payloads out of a hypersonic gas gun that achieve a mostly kinetic orbital insertion
To build the space economy we need gigatons of raw materials in orbit: steel, equipment, liquids, gasses, batteries, solar panels. To carry humans you need low accelerations like in a rocket, but for raw materials you can accelerate them at 100’s of g’s.
Kinetically launching things to the edge of space with a gun is nothing new: in the 1960s guns were developed by the US Army and sent 100lb projectiles 160km to the edge of space at Mach 6.
We’ve already hit Mach 4.6, next up is Mach 6, then Mach 15, then Mach 25
Our next step is developing a 1800 foot long gun in the desert to provide hypersonics testing to the Air Force
Our founding team brings decades of experience from top space startups in the bay and investors including Sam Altman, Hydrazine Capital, and Starship VC.
Our next step is building the world's largest gun in the Nevada desert to 100kg projectiles at Mach 5+, and lighter payloads at Mach 7.
Follow our journey at @longshotspace to stay in the loop on our quest to put gigatons of raw material into orbit and enable the space economy.
A gas gun provides the lowest possible marginal launch cost per kilogram. The system is steel, concrete, pressurized gas, and fully re-usable.
We start with a hypersonics testing market to grow our way to space launch and then in-space services
Very excited to announce our $5M raise led by Starship Ventures (@ItsHoagie) with participation from @myelinvc and @AngelList, bringing us to $8M in funding!
Thanks to initial backers @sama, @TimDraper, @SpaceFundInc for our pre-seed round back in 2022.
Thrilled to host @ashleevance today! We had a fantastic time touring the facility, discussing ___ (no spoilers here - check out the video!), and reliving the thrill of our test shot through fresh eyes.
