Thirty-plus years writing/broadcasting on Tar Heel football. Twenty books and counting on golf in Pinehurst and the Carolinas from the coast to the mountains.
Mack Brown embraced Tylee Craft’s mother throughout the 2-minute tribute to her son, then stepped back and waved his hands to lead a 13-second tribute to the Tar Heel who lost his life to cancer Saturday morning. Unspeakable grief today at Carolina.
Fun story: Brenda Corrie Kuehn was 8 months pregnant while playing in the 2001 U.S. Women's Open at Pine Needles (husband John was caddie). The baby born soon after, Rachel, is now 19 and a soph at Wake Forest; she won the Women's North & South Amateur @PinehurstResort Saturday.
Let’s take an inventory, shall we:
* No Covid-19 issues for @TarHeelFootball since camp opened;
* Top 5 offense, young & improving defense;
* Playing for shot in New Year’s Six bowl;
* No. 12 signing class on tap next week;
* Team GPA ≈ 3.0, all players eligible for bowl.
Frame it.
“The way he’s able to shoot the ball in big time moments and make plays, it’s great. When he starts flexing, I know he’s in that mode.” R.J. Davis
“He wants that shot. Very few guys in that situation are looking for that type of shot. Caleb is one of them.” Hubert
.@CoachMackBrown hates that Tar Heels won’t have fans in stands and will lose home-field advantage and makes appeal to powers-that-be to allow players’ parents at all schools in NC to attend games—wearing masks, social distanced. “Parents need to see their kids play,” he says.
