Dame Angela Eagle, minister for borders confirms that there has been a 116% increase in asylum decisions in the last financial year. Perm secretary Simon Ridley forecasts £400m has been saved on housing migrants in the same period.

An Iraqi people-smuggling gang supplying boats for Channel crossings has been dismantled in an international operation supported by the @NCA_UK. 13 suspects were arrested in Germany and France including senior gang members who sourced equipment for crossings.

Bridget Phillipson has today confirmed that she has accepted the STRB pay rec for 25/26. Teachers set to get a 4% pay rise in September. Represents 9.5% rise since @UKLabour came to power. New teachers will see a starting salary of £33k.

Over 100,000 former mineworkers across the UK have received the first boost to their pensions. Members will see an average of £29 extra to their weekly payment, with £1.5bn transferred to the pension scheme last month.

Vagrancy Act to be axed. @crisis_uk has said; "For 200 years the Vagrancy Act has meant that people who are homeless are treated as criminals and second class citizens. It is of great credit to the UK Government that they have shown such principled leadership in scrapping this"

South Western Railway will be the first train operator nationalised under the new government, with the operators contract up in May 2025. C2C (July) and Greater Anglia (Autumn) will be the next to follow.
