I have noticed the opposite, actually. It seems that more foundation model/researchy startups have been steamrolled. The (sensible) application layer startups generally haven't really been steamrolled in any big release by any of the labs. If anything, it has actually helped!

It seems like company parties are one of those things that can work very well if you are a startup with a few employees who are all very close friends. It seems to be harder in larger orgs where you have the "colleague barrier" and aren't really friends or atleast close friends.
