Change my mind: the biggest difference between statistics and machine learning is that statisticians think a lot about sampling and people in ML largely...don't.

There’s one existential risk I’m certain LLMs pose and that’s to the credibility of the field of FAccT / Ethical AI if we keep pushing the snake oil narrative about them.

I’d always assumed layoffs were stressful for people because of financial concerns. I’m not even that worried about money right now, but the feeling of being discarded, tying self-worth and identity to my job, loss of mission… all of that is harder than I expected. That’s all.
